Announcement of the UMALCA Prize 2009
UMALCA, the Mathematical Union of Latin America and the Caribbean, was founded in July of 1995.
Its main goal is to foster the development of Mathematics in all the countries in the region.
UMALCA’s activities are coordinated by an Executive Committee and a Scientific Council, both appointed by the General Assembly:
As a focus for its activities, UMALCA decided to launch the Latin American Congress of Mathematicians, to be organized by the Union every fourth year in some country in the region.
The 1st Congress took place from July 31 to August 4 of 2000, at IMPA in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The 2nd Congress took place from June 20 to 26 of 2004 at Cancún, Mexico, hosted by the Instituto de Matemáticas of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and the Sociedad Matemática Mexicana.
The 3rd Latin American Congress of Mathematicians will be held August 31 - September 4, 2009 at Centro Cultural Matucana 100, Universidad de Santiago de Chile and Bibliotecade Santiago. It is organized by UMALCA in collaboration with several Chilean institutions:
